Unstoppable Machines is written for clarinet quartet consisting of E-flat clarinet, two B-flat clarinets and Bass clarinet (with low-C extension). The slow introduction of the piece is a solemn remembrance of the simplicity of life in our youth. However, this quickly is interrupted by an unrelenting and unceasing motor that represents the jarring thrust into adulthood that happens in our college years and how are lives seem to be controlled by the unstoppable machines of a society built against us. The introduction is challenging because of tuning and the latter half of the piece is technically demanding in all parts. This piece is ideal for an advanced level ensemble.
