Kulintang

This piece is a sonic reflection of the enduring resilience and evolving identity of Filipino culture. Drawing inspiration from kulintang, a traditional percussion-based ensemble indigenous to the southern Philippines, the piece reimagines its interlocking rhythms, textures, and ceremonial spirit through the lens of clarinet, bass clarinet, and electronics. Rather than a direct imitation of kulintang music, this piece offers an abstract interpretation that is deconstructed and recomposed through a personal lens. It is both an homage and an exploration, honoring tradition while questioning what it means to inherit, adapt, and evolve cultural memory in our modern world.
